Hiawatha Franks is the Director of Small Commercial Programs at the insurance company, The Hartford, based out of Lake Mary, Florida. His exceptional work- ethic and determination has driven him to commit to achieving excellence within the corporate insurance industry. His drive for excellence has driven him up the ranks at Hartford. Before his position as the Director of Small Commercial Programs, he was the Director of Worker’s Compensation.
Prior to 2009, Hiawatha Franks also served as a Field Claim Director with American International Group, Inc. (AIG) in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position, he managed multiple teams from more than 120 employees, and held responsibility for the center’s operations, staffing, and recruitment. He recreated and optimized quality, customer service, and regulatory compliance in the workers’ compensation department.
Hiawatha Franks exceptional experience in worker’s compensation began at the Texas State University in San Marcos. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management. Fresh out of college and inexperienced, Hiawatha quickly entered the insurance industry, joining the team at Texas Mutual Insurance Company. He started off as a Claims Adjuster and Proceeding Analyst, but rapidly climbed the latter to success, achieving the ranks of Claim Manager to Director. In 1998, he joined the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). Upon graduating from college, he gained experience at Texas Mutual Insurance Company as a Claims Adjuster and Proceedings Analyst. After seven years of professional success with TASB, he brought his expertise to Hartford as Claims Manager of the company’s Houston claims center and eventually be promoted to Director. Hiawatha Franks is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), an Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and an Associate in Insurance Services (AIS). He also completed coursework in General Insurance. He has since obtained his Master of Business Administration in Risk Management from Walden University.
