Art by Academics
In 2021, Laura Lowery PhD established a creative project known as Art by Academics (and Friends). Inspired by a watercolor class that Lowery took in 2003, Art by Academics is a project centered around creating science-inspired art. An amateur artist herself, she finds inspiration in the raw and abstract creations produced by ‘non-artists;’ or creative people who don’t always turn to creating artwork as an outlet. Lowery enjoys inspiring and motivating others to take up watercolor painting, because it does not require any formal training. Always aiming to find the larger and more positive picture, the amateur artist views watercolor paintings as a form of active meditation. In her own self-care and healing, this creative outlet both energizes and empowers her, personally and professionally.
