Marinos Bernitsas | University of Michigan Research Intern Advancing Concussion Research and Nonprofit Leadership

Marinos Bernitsas is a Research Intern at the University of Michigan Concussion Center, biomedical researcher, and founder of The Neurodivergent Writer’s Hub. His work combines concussion research, biomolecular science, sports medicine research, and nonprofit leadership to improve patient outcomes while expanding opportunities for neurodivergent communities.

Academic Research & University of Michigan Experience

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biomolecular Science from the University of Michigan in 2024, Marinos Bernitsas continued contributing to research through the University of Michigan Concussion Center. His work includes supporting concussion studies, assisting with baseline testing for student-athletes, participating in concussion prevention education, and helping advance research focused on athlete health and patient care.

In addition to his work at Michigan, Marinos previously conducted biomedical research at Wayne State University, contributing to projects involving PDHK cancer pathways and opioid-related research. These experiences have strengthened his interdisciplinary background in laboratory research, clinical science, and translational medicine while preparing him for a future career as an academic

physician-scientist.

Founder of The Neurodivergent Writer’s Hub

Beyond scientific research, Marinos is the founder of The Neurodivergent Writer’s Hub, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting neurodivergent writers through education, creativity, and community engagement. The organization encourages individuals to share their experiences while building meaningful connections through writing and advocacy.

His nonprofit leadership reflects a commitment to expanding access to educational opportunities and promoting greater understanding of neurodiversity through collaborative initiatives and community outreach.

Community Engagement & Future Goals

As a first-generation Greek-American from Northville, Michigan, Marinos actively volunteers through programs such as SafetyTown events hosted by the University of Michigan Concussion Center, helping educate young participants about injury prevention and public safety.

With experience as a medical assistant, phlebotomist, and undergraduate researcher, Marinos continues to build a career that bridges biomedical research, patient care, and public health education. Through his work in concussion research, nonprofit leadership, and community service, he remains committed to improving healthcare outcomes while advancing scientific innovation.
