Focused on biodiversity, John Jaeger North Babylon is an Environmental Researcher who has guided numerous independent research projects as a mentor. John Jaeger and his team have been awarded grants for contributions made to the Shellfish Mariculture Program, including a Shellfish Hatchery.
Independent Research Projects
Biodiversity is the core of our world. Without a flourishing biodiversity, the ecosystem is threatened by species extinction. As an Environmental Researcher, John Jaeger of North Babylon is particularly focused on promoting biodiversity as a whole. His efforts as a Mentor have included guiding and managing independent research projects focused on soil invertebrates and aquaculture.
Soil Invertebrate Diversity — LI Pine Barrens
For a DNA Barcoding project, Jaeger acted as a Mentor for research on the effects of Southern Pine Beetles in the LI Pine Barrens. This independent research project was launched in response to the negative impact that Southern Pine Beetles have on the LI Pine Barrens, as an overall invasive pest species. Through experiments on controlled burning vs without controlled burning, Jaeger and his team observed how Southern Pine Beetle deforestation could assist the natural soil invertebrate diversity. In conclusion, the Mentor and his research group determined that implementation of similar methods can mitigate the damage caused by Southern Pine Beetles on the soil invertebrate biodiversity of the LI Pine Barrens.
Shellfish Hatchery in Mount Sinai Harbor
Independent Environmental Researcher John Jaeger North Babylon has contributed efforts as a mentor to the Shellfish Hatchery in Mount Sinai Harbor. John Jaeger and his team were awarded grants to expand and upgrade the shellfish hatchery, after making significant research on aquaculture techniques and methods via the shellfish mariculture program.
